MONTREAL – Shares of Bombardier Inc. hit a nearly seven-year high Wednesday after the C Series jet it developed secured the largest order since the announcement of a joint venture with Airbus.JetBlue Airways Corp. ordered 60 of the aircraft, renamed by Airbus as the A220-300, for delivery starting in 2020 with the option for another 60 starting in 2025.The firm deal announced late Tuesday was valued at US$5.4 billion at list prices, but airlines typically receive large discounts. The airline said the plane’s economics was the primary motivation rather than Airbus taking majority control over the aircraft’s joint venture which happened after JetBlue launched its 15-month review.“The marriage between Bombardier and Airbus was a secondary factor,” chief financial officer Stephen Priest said in a conference call.“But the good news about that when it came to fruition was it allowed us to reshape our Airbus orderbook to make sure that we continue to maintain our mid- to high single-digit capacity growth over the foreseeable future.”Bombardier shares climbed to $5.58 in early trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange, a price last reached in August 2011. They closed up three cents at $5.43 in the afternoon session.Five A220 planes are scheduled to be delivered in the first year, ramping up to a high of 22 in 2024.JetBlue will become the first American airline to fly the larger A220-300 with 130 to 140 seats. Delta Air Lines Inc. ordered 75 A220-100s in the spring of 2016.The U.S. low-cost airline said it could switch some of its order to the smaller, 120-seat A220-100 plane.JetBlue said the decision to order the aircraft was driven by three strategic factors: profitability from the plane’s low operating costs, flexibility to use both aircraft models and its range.Priest said the A220 opens up the possibility of transcontinental flights and more options for overnight Caribbean flights.“This is a game-changer for JetBlue. It’s a real margin builder for our business…and so we’re very, very confident with the orders,” Priest said. The A220s will replace 60 Embraer E190 planes. JetBlue said it needs smaller planes, but the Embraer aircraft would require costly upgrades over the next decade. The airline also considered the new Embraer 195 E-2 planes. Priest said the competition was very tight, but the aircraft selected aligns with the other Airbus planes in its fleet.Analyst Benoit Poirier of Desjardins Capital Markets said JetBlue’s order confirms the strength of the Airbus–Bombardier partnership. He said more A220 orders could be announced at the upcoming Farnborough Airshow.Bombardier has said interest in the plane has surged since the announcement of the partnership.Airbus recently said it could book more than 100 A220 orders by the end of the year and slightly more than 3,000 sales over the next 20 years.Companies in this story: (TSX:BBD.B)

Mumbai: Actress Tisca Chopra, who is making her directorial debut with a yet untitled thriller film, says direction was the next logical step forward for her after acting in films over 26 years. Tisca was interacting with the media at a special screening of Oscar-winning film “Free Solo” here on Tuesday. The actress, who had earlier acted in and co-written the acclaimed short film “Chutney”, will now be helming a “twisted, dark and bitingly funny” movie. Revealing the genre of the film, Tisca said: “It’s a thriller film.” Asked if she feels under pressure as it is her first film as a director, she said: “I don’t know. I am just doing my work and I am not thinking about the pressure right now. I guess it is the next logical step forward for me after acting. So I am feeling really happy and excited about it.” “Free Solo” won the Best Documentary at both the Oscars and the BAFTAs. It will release across theatres on Friday across key metros such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. Tisca said that as someone living in India, she gets to see such films usually when she travels abroad or courtesy film festivals and a platform like National Geographic, which has brought “Free Solo” here. “There are so many people who want to watch stuff. We can watch a lot of content on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but it’s a different experience to watch it in a theatre with proper picture quality, sound and people. It’s a very collective experience and I love that.” “Free Solo” is a portrait of the free soloist climber Alex Honnold as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream — climbing the face of the world’s most famous rock. Would Tisca like to feature in an adventure-thriller film? She said: “I would love do an adventure film. There was one film which used to be my favourite was ‘Crocodile Dundee’, where they go all through these jungles and stuff. I am a very big white water rafting enthusiast and I am a motor sport enthusiast. I also took part in Himalayan car rally. So yeah, if anything comes up on these lines, I definitely want to be a part of it.” Tisca will also appear in the romantic comedy “Good News”, where she will co-star with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani. She has finished shooting for the film.
OSU redshirt sophomore pitcher Adam Niemeyer (43) pitches during a game on April 14 at Bill Davis Stadium. Credit: Lantern File PhotoFriday’s deflating loss to Iowa put the No. 4 seed Ohio State Buckeyes on the brink of elimination, and just hours later, the Buckeyes squared off against the fifth-seeded Michigan Wolverines. Another loss in the Big Ten tournament would have sent the Buckeyes home and would have created tension on Selection Monday hoping to receive an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament. At first, it appeared the pitching woes rolled over from the Iowa game as right-handed redshirt sophomore Adam Niemeyer ran into some early trouble, surrendering two earned runs on a hit and two hit batsmen in his first inning of work. However, the Buckeye offense came out in the bottom of the first and scored five runs on six hits to chase the Michigan starter, right-handed sophomore Ryan Nutof, out of the game after only one out in the first. This offensive onslaught was helped by the middle of the order when junior left fielder Ronnie Dawson, second baseman Troy Kuhn and center fielder Troy Montgomery recorded three consecutive RBI singles to score the first three runs. Senior co-captain Jalen Washington brought in the next two runners on a single through the right side to give the Buckeyes a 5-2 lead. Thunderstorms rolled into TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska, forcing the Buckeyes and Wolverines to continue play on Saturday. Niemeyer was relieved by freshman right-hander Ryan Feltner because of the weather delay. On Saturday, Feltner got into some trouble in the top half of the fifth. Three straight Wolverines reached base off of a walk, a single and an error which loaded the bases with no outs. After striking out Michigan sophomore Jake Bivens for the first out, Feltner gave up an RBI single to freshman second baseman Ako Thomas to cut the Buckeyes lead to three. Michigan centerfielder Cody Bruder then reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring freshman left fielder Jonathan Englemann, making the score 6-4 Buckeyes after five.As the Buckeyes did in the bottom half of the first, they put any momentum on Michigan’s side into submission after a Dawson RBI single and Kuhn’s two-RBI single to extend the lead to 9-4 in OSU’s favor. The single by Kuhn was initially called foul by the first base umpire, but that was overturned when the OSU coach Greg Beals asked for the umpires to review the call. In the bottom of the seventh, Nennig scored on an RBI double by Kuhn, who was then brought in by Montgomery’s RBI single and cruise to an 11-4 victory. To say that the Buckeyes were hot offensively is an understatement. OSU recorded 18 hits and were 9-for-19 with runners in scoring position. Each Buckeye hitter recorded a hit in the game. This offense helped the freshman, Feltner, have a career day in relief. In his 6.1 innings of work, Feltner gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits and three walks. He also struck out a career high 10 batters on 114 pitches. The Buckeyes will face the No. 7 seed Michigan State Spartans later Saturday. If the Spartans win, they will face the No. 8 seed Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship. If the Buckeyes win, they will have to face the Spartans again tomorrow morning to decide who goes to the Big Ten Championship.

Mats Hummels believes that it is wrong for a young player like Leroy Sane to expect to be regarded on the same status as the likes of Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil in the Germany squadThe Manchester City winger was shockingly left out of Germany’s final 23-man squad for the World Cup at Russia after having an outstanding campaign in the Premier League this season, which had seen the 22-year-old being crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year. However, Sane has yet to find the back of the net for Germany in his 12 appearances for the senior side and had a disappointing display in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Austria. In light of this, head coach Joachim Low elected not to select Sane for the World Cup this summer. The 58-year-old has been criticised for the decision, but Hummels has backed Low and instead criticised the attitude of the younger generation.“Leroy Sane has not the same standing as Thomas Muller or Mesut Ozil,” said the defender, according to SportsKeeda.Top 5 Bundesliga players to watch during the weekend Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 11, 2019 With the international activity cooling down for the next month, we go back to the Bundesliga’s Top 5 players to watch next weekend. The German…“Sometimes it takes time to have the same standing in the national team as in your club.“It is noticeable that the guys coming up from youth ranks – at Bayern too – are different guys to 10, 12 years ago.“That is the new generation. They are characterised by a different behaviour, like on social media.“I was always the youngest one in my team and I had to carry the goals. That is simply normal. Nowadays you notice some 18-year-olds don’t understand why they have to do this.“I didn’t talk a single word in the Bayern locker room during the first weeks. I only talked to Stephan Furstner and Michael Rensing because I knew them from the second team.“To everyone else I maybe said ‘hello’, but today everything is faster and after one week players behave like they’ve already played three years for the team.”
