DCC, Malteenoes renew rivalry on busy GCA weekend

first_imgNow that the rains have stopped, cricket action in Georgetown is set to resume with four matches in four ongoing competitions organized by the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA).Richie Looknauth lead Everest Cricket Club to a commanding win over Transport SC last weekend (John Ramsingh photos)Traditional fierce competitors, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) are set to lock horns at DCC in the General Industrial and Supplies Enterprise (GISE), Star Party Rentals and Trophy Stall First Division Two-Day competition on Saturday and Sunday.It will be the host’s final match of the competition and they will look to add to the 42 points they currently have that sees them occupying the third sport behind Police SC with 64 points and Everest Cricket Club on 45 in Zone A.Malteenoes on the other hand are in fourth position with 31 points but still have another game in the bag against Police SC.The action is set to begin at 09:30h on both days.Another competition that was affected by the lengthy rainy period is the Noble House Seafood Second Division Two-Day which will also resume on Saturday when Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) hosts DCC at Bourda beginning at 11:00h.DCC enter their final match in third position in Zone B with 92 points behind Everest CC (99 points) and Transport SC (97 points) while GCC have 47 points are in a distant fourth but still have to play Diplomats (28 points) to end their campaign.Sunday is the final day.Part of the intense action last Saturday at the MYO ground between DCC and Bel-Air RubisMeanwhile, the New Building Society (NBS) 40-over second division continues with University of Guyana (UG) travelling to the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) ground on Woolford Avenue to take on the hosts on Sunday August 26 from 11:00h.This competition resumed last weekend with Everest CC ending their campaign with a crushing win by 66 runs over Transport Sports Club at Everest.The fourth and final competition that was incomplete is the V-Net Communications U-13 Champs Pairs Cricket Competition. This exciting competition started in April and resumed last weekend with DCC and Bel-Air Rubis doing battle at MYO.On Saturday, the other two teams in the tournament, GCC and TSC will bounce into action from 09:30 at the same venue.last_img
