Pauric Curley dobled the lead two minutes later, before the excellent Chippie Barrett showed his strength to brush off two tackles and fire over the bar.David Curley added another point before Lifford registered their first point. The intensity of Milford’s tackling made it very difficult for Lifford to move the ball out of defence. Luke Barrett pointed a free before a Lifford effort was granted a white flag despite clearly being a foot wide.Three more points from Lifford followed to see them go into the break a point up. Milford were slow out of the blocks in the second half, and two more Lifford points punished them for their complacency. Milford went 22 minutes without a score before Pauric Curley kicked a great free from near the sideline in the 40th minute. Two minutes later, the only goal of the game arrived through a Pauric Curley penalty. Cathal McGettigan’s incisive run through the heart of the Lifford defence caused uncertainty and he was eventually fouled as he entered the large rectangle. Pauric Curley took the responsibility and he coolly sent Shaun McBrearty the wrong way with his kick. Lifford scored again to level the scores but then Cathal McGettigan showed his class with a wonderful point after good link up play with TJ Evesson. With only a point between the sides the tension was rife and the hard-hitting continued. It was a full seventeen minutes until the next score when Pauric Curley converted a free after Chippie Barrett was fouled. The second half was very stop-start, yet no-one could have anticipated the 12 minutes of injury time that referee allowed but crucially Milford were able to hang on. The final whistle was greeted with relief and satisfaction in the Milford camp and they now set up an intriguing play-off against Lifford in the coming weeks.
